Mexico has my heart…..

I can’t hide it, I love going to Mexico.  I don’t speak spanish (yet) so I do always feel a little out of sorts but I never fail to have a good time when I am there.  So far this year I been twice.  Once to Mexico City and once to Isla Mujeres, a small island near Cancun.  I am going to start a bit backwards time wise since Isla is fresher in my mind right now.

We chose to go over the fourth of July week, since everyone gets to take less vacation days this week (and save them for another adventure.  We flew Southwest – not one of my favorite airlines due to the fabulous baggage policy, they do get major points for that on any dive photo vacation I ever take.  I just dont like having to fight to sit near anyone I am with.  Plus I am horrid about remembering to check in 24 hours in advance.  Twenty Plus years of travel and you think i could remember, but I can’t or won’t – you choose.

Once we landed we had already booked a taxi service for the 8 of us with USA Transfers, an excellent service.  THey showed up at the airport shortly after we arrived and swept us off to the ferry.  The ferry ride itself was only 15 minutes and was nothing spectacular- which given a few other ferry rides that have been in the news- i was thankful for.

Whale Shark

Let’s get to pictures – Our goal while there was to for swimming with the whale sharks.  I am not going to claim my images are spectacular.  For the whale shark part of our expedition for the day, the consensus on the boat was that we were hurried and made fearful before we even got out of the boat.  I understand caution, I understand making it clear not to touch the whale sharks, but it was a bit much and the rush once we jumped into the water made for horrible images- i cant tell you how many times our own guide got in my way.  I strongly suggest if your day is going to be about getting images to set a separate tour with other photographers or a special group.
